The infantry sections of the British Expeditionary Force formed the backbone of the British forces in France and Belgium in 1939/40. Equipped with the proven Lee-Enfield rifle and the Bren light machine gun, these troops represented a well-trained but numerically inferior force that attempted to halt the German Blitzkrieg.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

The British Expeditionary Force comprised almost 300,000 soldiers, who were deployed to France from September 1939 onwards to resist the German advance alongside Belgian and French units. The British infantry sections were well-trained and equipped with reliable weapons, but the German pincer attack through the Ardennes bypassed the main Allied positions and put the corps in an untenable situation. General Lord Gort's troops fought their way back to the coast in a series of rearguard actions, until the dramatic evacuation at Dunkirk in May and June 1940 saved a large part of the corps. This chapter continues to shape the British understanding of camaraderie and perseverance under extreme pressure to this day.

The integrated Bren LMG team provides a solid fire base, while the NCO and seven riflemen offer flexible close and medium-range deployment options.
