Background & context

The British Expeditionary Force went to France from September 1939 and spent the winter on the Belgian border without much happening. When the attack came in May 1940 it did not strike the prepared front but ran through the Ardennes and cut the force off from the south. A counter-attack at Arras stalled the German advance for two days but did nothing to change the situation. There followed the retreat to the coast and the evacuation of over 300,000 men from Dunkirk, with almost all the heavy equipment left behind.

On the tabletop

This section fought with the British Expeditionary Force in France in May and June 1940, up to the retreat to Dunkirk. Ten metal figures form a complete section: an NCO with rifle, a two-man Bren team and seven riflemen. The Bren is the base of fire, while the rifles hold hedges, walls and the edges of villages. In Bolt Action the section fits any early-war British force, alongside support weapons of the same period.
