    Product details

    Background & context

Bondi were free farmers and landowners in Viking Age society. In times of war, they could serve as armed retainers or a levy, forming the core of a larger warrior group. Their equipment was less elite than that of the Hirdmen, but remained important for the shield wall. The bareheaded variants add visual variety to Viking formations.

    On the tabletop

Eight free farmer-warriors without helmets fill out your Vikings in SAGA, Pillage and Hail Caesar. The Bondi make up the bulk of a Viking force: landholders obliged to turn up with their own weapons when war came, and rarely able to afford an iron helmet. Mixed in with helmeted warriors of the same unit, they make your force look like a levy rather than a uniformly equipped guard. Raids on monasteries are a fitting setting for them.
