Product details

Background & context

The Mexica military system had no standing army, only levies from the city districts under experienced leaders. Advancement came through captives: anyone who brought in enough enemies alive joined the orders of the Eagle and Jaguar warriors and was allowed to wear their dress. Fighting came in waves: first sling, atlatl and bow, then the obsidian-edged macuahuitl in hand-to-hand combat. The Flower Wars served expressly to keep up the supply of captives.

On the tabletop

From the five frames you build up to 30 Aztec warriors, from ordinary levies to members of the warrior orders. Fighting happens in waves: first slingers, archers and atlatl throwers shoot, then the men with spear and macuahuitl close in. The command parts give you leaders and standards. The force suits the Flower Wars against rival cities as well as the fighting against the Spanish conquistadors; bases need to be added separately.
