    Background & context

    In North Africa the A12 Matilda was regarded as played out by 1942; in the Pacific its second career began. From 1943 the Australian 4th Armoured Brigade took it into action on New Guinea, Bougainville and Borneo, where Japanese anti-tank weapons could barely get through the thick hull. Swamp, jungle and narrow tracks ruled out large formations, so the crews drove in troops of three close to the infantry. Additional plates protected the running gear and the turret ring, and the Frog conversion burned out bunkers.

    On the tabletop

    For Australian lists in the Pacific War you build the Matilda II with a 2-pounder, as a close support version with a 3-inch howitzer or as the Frog flamethrower. On New Guinea, Bougainville and Borneo the Matildas of the 4th Armoured Brigade fought in groups of three tanks right alongside the infantry, and that is how you use them in Bolt Action. The Frog needs a 20-second pause between bursts of flame and therefore infantry close by. Stat card and order die are included.
