Background & context

The 2-pounder was a decent anti-tank gun in 1940 and no longer one in 1942: the 40mm shot was not enough against the frontal armour of the later German types, and at first the weapon carried no high-explosive shells at all. In the desert the wheeled carriage had to be set down before every fire order, which made changing position under fire slow. The 8th Army kept the gun all the same until it was replaced by the 6-pounder. Snipers there worked in pairs: one on the telescopic sight, one on the binoculars.

On the tabletop

Two teams for the 8th Army: a QF 2-pdr anti-tank gun with three crew and a two-man sniper team. The 2-pounder could handle early German tanks, light vehicles and poorly armoured Japanese tanks, but its wheels had to be removed before it could fire. So you put it in position early and use it to cover a flank against vehicles. The sniper with his SMLE No.4 and telescopic sight works from cover, and two order dice are included.
