From 1943 onwards, the Australian Army reorganised its units into lean jungle divisions with a significantly higher density of small arms - this metal set depicts a typical infantry squad from these units, equipped with Bren LMGs, rifles, and submachine guns for the tough close combat in the Pacific.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

From early 1943, the Australian Army subjected its units to a fundamental restructuring to meet the special requirements of the combat zones in the Pacific. The newly formed jungle divisions were significantly leaner than comparable British units but had a considerably higher firepower density at short ranges - the number of submachine guns rose from 400 to 981. Since the dense terrain rendered vehicles and heavy equipment largely useless, supply units and anti-aircraft personnel were integrated into the rifle platoons. At the same time, the pioneer component was significantly strengthened, as crossing countless rivers and defusing Japanese traps were part of the fighters' daily routine.

Einsatz im Spiel

Australian jungle troops are particularly well-suited for close-quarters, limited-visibility scenarios in the jungle or on coastal terrain on the tabletop. The combination of Bren LMG and multiple SMG carriers gives the squad high close-quarters firepower, which comes into its own particularly in forest and jungle battles. Scenarios revolving around island-hopping warfare in the Pacific or jungle patrols can be thematically well-represented with this set. As part of a Commonwealth army, the squad naturally complements support units and specialists.
