Product details

Background & context

Ashigaru were lightly armored foot soldiers and formed a large part of the armies in the Sengoku period. Many were armed with yari spears and served as ordered infantry alongside samurai and ranged troops. The Takeda decals give the box a clear Japanese clan reference.

On the tabletop

More lightly armoured than the samurai, the Ashigaru made up the bulk of the armies of the Sengoku period from 1467 to 1603. In Pike & Shotte the 20 figures with yari form a spear unit that stands in a looser formation than European pike blocks, moves faster and uses the spear to thrust and slice. Cavalry that charges such a block from the front is in for a hard time. A decal sheet with Takeda clan markings is included for your painting.
