    Ein angelsächsischer Herr hielt sich ein Gefolge, das in seiner Halle aß, von ihm ausgerüstet wurde und ihm dafür bis zum Ende folgte. Diese Bindung hat in der Dichtung mehr Gewicht als jede Sippe. Solche Männer übten, während die Bauern des Aufgebots pflügten, und trugen die beste Ausrüstung, die der Haushalt aufbringen konnte. In der Schlacht standen sie um den Anführer herum und bildeten den Teil der Linie, der zuletzt brach.

    On the tabletop

    Huscarls who swap the sword for the spear gain reach and can await an attack in a firm stance. In Hail Caesar or SAGA the eight individually posed metal figures take the brunt of enemy charges and, thanks to better training, last longer than ordinary levies. As your leader's retinue you place them in the centre of the line. More lightly equipped warriors fill the front on either side.
