The Romano-Britons of the 5th and 6th centuries were descendants of the Romanized population of Britannia who, after the withdrawal of the legions, attempted to defend their civilization against the invading Saxons and Picts.

    Nach dem Abzug der Legionen um 410 zerfiel die römische Verwaltung Britanniens, und mit ihr die Werkstätten, die Kettenhemden in Serie fertigten. Wer im 5. Jahrhundert zum Speer griff, kämpfte meist ohne Rüstung: Bauern, Hirten und Gefolgsleute kleiner Fürsten, die ihr Tal gegen sächsische Landnehmer verteidigten. Gefochten wurde selten in offener Feldschlacht, sondern an Furten, in Wäldern und vor den wiederbesetzten Hügelforts. Aus diesen Kämpfen wuchs später der Sagenkreis um Artus.

    On the tabletop

    Less resilient than their armoured comrades, these eight metal unarmoured Romano-Britons guard the flanks of your main host. In Hail Caesar or SAGA you use them to close gaps in the line and protect points where the enemy could otherwise break through. In the 5th century it was mainly farmers, herdsmen and followers of minor lords who fought like this against Saxon settlers. Fords, woodland and old hillforts make fitting battlefields.
