Product details

Background & context

After Dunkirk, Britain stood in the summer of 1940 with almost no heavy equipment, and nobody knew whether or where German airborne troops would come down. Because no tanks could be spared to secure the airfields, makeshift vehicles were built from whatever was to hand: a lorry chassis, a body of wooden walls filled with gravel, thin sheet steel around the cab. Most Armadillos carried only Lewis guns and rifles, and a good fifty were given old naval guns. They were driven by RAF ground crew and the Home Guard.

On the tabletop

In Bolt Action the Armadillo MkIII is an improvised self-propelled gun for defending British airfields against German airborne troops in 1940. A retired naval gun sits on the lorry behind wooden walls filled with gravel. It was crewed by Royal Air Force ground staff and by the Home Guard, so it fits your scenarios about a German landing in England. A stat card, decals and an order die are included.
