Product details

Background & context

Windmills were common in the northern colonies, especially on Long Island, in New England and in areas settled by the Dutch. They ground grain into flour, which made them important to villages and armies alike. On flat land their height also made them landmarks and lookout points. During the war of 1775-1783, whoever controlled the mills of a district also secured its supply of flour and bread.

On the tabletop

A windmill belongs on a hill or at the edge of a field, where it towers over the surrounding ground. In a game it gives you a landmark and an objective that one side has to hold and the other has to take. Because sails and mill can turn, you can face them the right way for each layout. Add fields, fences and farms around it for a convincing rural setting.
