Product details

Background & context

In the thirteen colonies the church was often the largest building in town and also served as the meeting place of the congregation. Many churches in New England and the middle colonies were plain timber buildings with clapboard walls. During the War of Independence (1775-1783) both sides turned churches into hospitals, quarters, storehouses or prisons. Steeples also made useful lookout posts for watching troop movements.

On the tabletop

Place the church at the heart of a village and both armies have an obvious point to fight over. At 15 cm tall it rises above most houses, which makes it easy to pick out as an objective from any side of the table. A unit holding the building blocks the village street and forces the enemy to go around. Beyond the War of Independence, the church also suits other periods you play with Epic Battles.
