Background & context

Rommel's Afrika Korps landed in Tripoli in February 1941, really only as a blocking force for the beaten Italians. Two years later it had a reputation that hardly any other formation of the war possessed. The desert war ran by rules of its own: hardly any civilian population, hardly any cover, but distances at which an observer with binoculars was worth more than a whole company. In May 1943 what was left of the Korps surrendered in Tunisia.

On the tabletop

In the desert, with its wide fields of view, an Afrika Korps force in Bolt Action needs more than riflemen. Here the officer and a soldier with a submachine gun form the command squad, the medic tends the wounded, and the radio operator directs fire as forward observer. The medium machine gun with three crew covers wide open ground, and the medium mortar with three crew reaches enemies behind cover. All ten figures wear tropical kit.
