Hintergrund & Einordnung

The British 8th Army was the central Commonwealth formation in the North African Campaign and later fought its way through the Southern European theater. Its officers often came from the upper middle class and brought with them a classical education and a strong sense of duty. The Vickers machine gun was a proven weapon system from the First World War, characterized by outstanding reliability and sustained fire capability. The 3-inch mortar was a flexible medium support weapon that provided indirect fire support for infantry units at ranges up to 2,700 meters.

Einsatz im Spiel

This combination of command element, distant fire support, and indirect fire forms the tactical backbone of a British company on the tabletop. The MG team is particularly suitable for controlling open sectors and securing flanks, while the mortar team can put enemy cover positions under pressure. The commander provides tactical leadership to adjacent units and increases their responsiveness. The combination of both support weapons allows for playing changing scenarios with different tactical focuses.
