Description

Wheels off first, then fire: the 2-pdr had to be lowered onto its carriage before it could shoot. That idiosyncratic early-war gun is exactly what is in here, with 8th Army crew and an MDF base for basing.

Background & context

At the outbreak of war the QF 2-pdr was the British Army's standard anti-tank gun and even slightly ahead of the German 3.7 cm PaK 36 in penetration. The price was weight and a bulky carriage. In France, North Africa and the Far East it was still adequate against early tanks and light vehicles. In Europe German tank development quickly left it behind, whereas against Japanese types it went on doing its duty for a long time. The Expeditionary Force in France did not have enough even of these and had to make do in part with French 25 mm Hotchkiss guns.

On the tabletop

The 2-pdr is the early anti-tank gun of your 8th Army in Bolt Action, for British, Australian, New Zealand or Indian troops in North Africa. It deals with early tanks, armoured cars and light vehicles, but later, better-armoured German types call for heavier guns. Its unusual carriage required the wheels to be removed before firing. Three metal 8th Army crew and an oval MDF base are included.
