    Background & context

    The QF 6-pounder replaced the 2-pounder, which had become too weak, and turned out so well that the Americans copied it as the 57 mm Gun M1. New types of ammunition kept it competitive for years: from the flank its penetration was enough even against Panther and Tiger. The more powerful 17-pounder later supplemented it but never displaced it entirely, and in infantry units the 6-pounder went on serving long after the end of the war.

    On the tabletop

    In a British artillery platoon of the middle and late war years, the 6-pdr is a medium anti-tank gun. With improved ammunition it can knock out even Panthers and Tigers from the flank, so you set it up to the side of the expected line of attack. Three crew in winter kit serve it, matching British and Canadian troops in the winter of 1944, and the oval MDF base holds gun and crew together.
