    The Goliath demolition vehicle was a remote-controlled tracked vehicle used by the Wehrmacht. Loaded with explosives, it was steered to its target via a cable. This set shows two pioneers in action deploying the Goliath - combinable with the SdKfz 2 Kettenkrad kit (Rubicon SKU 280071).

    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Goliath (officially: Leichter Ladungsträger SdKfz 302/303) was a remote-controlled demolition vehicle of the Wehrmacht, used for the targeted destruction of fortifications, tanks, obstacles, and positions. Controlled by a three-core control cable from up to 600 meters away, it was loaded with 60-100 kg of explosives, maneuvered directly to the target, and detonated there. The electric variant (SdKfz 302) had two electric motors with batteries, while the later gasoline-powered variant (SdKfz 303) was more reliable and powerful. In total, over 7,500 units were built and deployed from 1942 on the Eastern Front, in Italy, and in Western Europe - particularly prominently during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising and in Normandy. Despite technical weaknesses such as the cable's vulnerability (a shot to the cable disabled the vehicle), the Goliath is considered an early precursor of modern remote-controlled combat systems and is an unusual, characteristic piece of Wehrmacht pioneer equipment.

    The Goliath Demolition Vehicle supplements German forces as a specialized engineer unit and is particularly suited for scenarios involving fortifications or armored targets. The two engineer figures can be easily integrated into existing setups and can be directly combined with the Kettenkrad kit (280071) to model a complete operational scene.
