    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    Heavy machine guns like the MG34 (introduced in 1936) and the MG42, produced from 1942 onwards, formed the backbone of German infantry fire support. Mounted on the heavy Lafette 34 or 42, the same weapon was used as a HMG (Heavy Machine Gun) - a characteristic of German MG doctrine: unlike the Allies, there was no separate HMG model; instead, the same weapon served as a light MG on a bipod and a heavy MG on a tripod. With its exceptionally high rate of fire of up to 1,500 rounds per minute, the MG42 was considered one of the most effective machine guns of World War II and was feared by Allied soldiers as "Hitler's Buzz Saw." The heavy variant on a mount allowed for precise, sustained fire over long distances and was used in all theaters of war - from the steppes of the Eastern Front to the bocage landscapes of Normandy.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    A heavy machine gun team takes on the role of fire support on the tabletop: It suppresses enemy infantry and holds defensive positions. The choice between the MG34 and MG42 allows for time-accurate representation for Early-War or Mid-/Late-War scenarios. Most effectively used in defensive setups or as flank protection for advancing infantry squads.
