Background & context

The Wehrmacht built its infantry squad around the machine gun and not the other way round, and no other army followed that through so consistently. On the heavy Lafette 34 or 42 the same MG34 or MG42 became a heavy weapon with an optical sight and a sustained-fire capability out to well beyond 2,000 metres. The MG42 joined it from 1942 and fired around 1,200 rounds per minute, which earned it the name Hitlersäge (Hitler's saw) among Allied soldiers. For early-war lists you build the MG34, and from 1942 you reach for the MG42.

On the tabletop

On the heavy tripod mount, the German machine gun becomes a weapon for sustained fire at long range. During assembly you decide whether an MG34 or an MG42 sits on it: the MG34 for the early war years, the MG42 only from 1942. Two men serve the gun while the third brings up ammunition boxes. Firing from cover with a clear field of fire, the team keeps enemy infantry at a distance. Bases of 25 mm and 60 mm are included in the plastic kit.
