    Product details

    Background & context

Erwin Rommel (1891-1944) is one of the best-known German generals of the Second World War. Already noticed in the 1940 French campaign as commander of the 7th Panzer Division ("Ghost Division"), he was appointed commander of the German Africa Korps in North Africa in 1941. His aggressive, mobile leadership in the Western Desert earned him the nickname "Desert Fox" - and also recognition from opposing British generals such as Auchinleck and Montgomery. Rommel personally led his troops from the front, often in the command half-track "Greif". Close cooperation with radio operators enabled him to react quickly to changes in the situation despite the vastness of the desert battlefield. After the retreat from North Africa in 1943, he became Army Group Commander in France and was responsible for the expansion of the Atlantic Wall. Due to his connection to the 20 July 1944 plot, he was forced to commit suicide.

    On the tabletop

Rommel and his radio operator form the command post of your German force, from the French campaign of 1940 via North Africa to the Atlantic Wall. The general represents leadership, the radio operator the link to the units at the front. In scenarios the pair works as a headquarters you have to protect, or as the target of an enemy thrust. Both figures stand on 25 mm lipped bases and are quick to build from eleven parts.
