Product details

Background & context

The roads in the East were barely surfaced, and twice a year the rasputitsa turned them into slurry. Steyr therefore built a vehicle that could do nothing but drive and tow: fully tracked, light, slow, yet almost impossible to stop. The RSO took guns and ammunition to places where lorries came to a halt, and was soon also used as a permanent tractor for the anti-tank arm. The late RSO/03 version was given an angular sheet-metal cab because it could be produced more quickly.

On the tabletop

Steyr built the Raupenschlepper Ost as a fully tracked supply vehicle for the Eastern Front, where mud and poor roads stopped trucks. In games set in autumn, winter or the thaw it brings ammunition and guns to places where wheels no longer grip. With the track extensions you build it for snow and bog. The cab can be the early RSO/01 or the late RSO/03, and a canvas frame, tarpaulin and driver are included.
