    Background & context

    The Canon de 75 modèle 1897 was the gun that made France famous in the First World War, and the USA adopted it in large numbers. In the 1930s the old barrels were given new carriages with a sprung axle and pneumatic tyres so that vehicles could tow them at speed. After the fall of France in 1940 they were additionally fitted with sights for direct fire, and the field gun became an anti-tank weapon. In March 1945 the US Army declared it obsolete.

    On the tabletop

    The M2A3 is an American gun of the early war years that you can use as a field gun or for anti-tank work. With its direct-fire sights it can take on Italian and Japanese tanks, but it falls short against the heavy armour of later German vehicles. Games in North Africa and Italy suit it best. You build it in travelling or firing position with the trail closed or spread, and three gunners plus ammunition and stowage are included.
