    Steyr's air-cooled eight-cylinder made the 1500A usable where cooling water froze or boiled. The kit gives you the troop carrier or the field-modified FlaK 38 version, plus an MG34 and a driver.

    Background & context

    Steyr-Daimler-Puch delivered the 1500A from September 1941: a heavy cross-country car with an air-cooled V8 that needed neither antifreeze nor cooling water. That is exactly what made it popular on the Eastern Front and with the Afrika Korps, while water-cooled rivals broke down in droves. The 01 version still carried its spare wheel inside; from August 1942 it moved to the outside. By the end of production in March 1944 around 18,000 vehicles had been built, latterly also at Auto Union.

    On the tabletop

    The Steyr 1500A was an unarmoured heavy off-road car whose air-cooled engine kept running on the Eastern Front and with the Afrika Korps alike. As the 01 version it carries a squad of your German infantry forward on the benches of its load bed. With the field-fitted 2 cm FlaK 38 it becomes mobile air defence that can also engage light ground targets. An MG34 can be mounted, doors and tarpaulin are built open or closed, and a driver is included.
