    Background & context

    The M3 reached the troops in 1940 and was perfectly adequate for its day, light enough for six men and quick to bring into action. 18,702 came off the line up to 1943, by which time it was clear that 37 mm could no longer achieve anything against the new German armour. In Europe the 57 mm anti-tank gun replaced it, whereas in the Pacific it stayed in demand until the end of the war: Japanese tanks were thinly armoured, and with canister rounds the gun also cleared infantry and bunker embrasures.

    On the tabletop

    The M3 is the light anti-tank gun of US infantry in the first years of the war. From 1943 its calibre is no longer enough against better-armoured German vehicles, but in the Pacific it remains a threat to thinly armoured Japanese tanks until the end of the war. With canister and high-explosive rounds it also supports your infantry against enemy riflemen. Barrel and trails are movable, and a crew of three and ammunition crates are included.
