    Product details

    Background & context

Behind the nickname Protze are the Krupp types L2 H43 and L2 H143, six-wheeled 6x4 lorries built from 1934 to 1941. Around 7,000 left the factories, powered by a four-cylinder engine of 55 hp, or 60 hp from 1936. The Kfz 69 mainly towed the 3.7cm PaK 36, while the Kfz 70 brought the motorised infantry along behind; both served in France, North Africa, Sicily and on the Eastern Front. At 24 litres per 100 kilometres the vehicle was thirsty, which pushed it out of service as the war went on.

    On the tabletop

The Krupp Protze is a six-wheeled truck of the early Wehrmacht, which you build either as the Kfz 69 tractor or as the Kfz 70 personnel carrier. As the Kfz 69 it mainly tows the 3.7 cm PaK 36 into position; as the Kfz 70 it brings a squad of motorised infantry forward. Being unarmoured, it drops off the gun or the men behind cover and then pulls back. It suits France, North Africa, Sicily and the Eastern Front, and a driver in Heer uniform is included.
