Product details

Background & context

In 1934 Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned to build an affordable car for the masses; the result was the Typ 1, marketed as the KdF-Wagen. Until 1939 only pre-production vehicles were built, then the factory switched to Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen, and the few finished saloons ran for Party and Wehrmacht offices. Civilian series production only started after 1945 under British supervision and reached 21,529,464 vehicles, more than any other car on a single platform.

On the tabletop

You build the Beetle in civilian or military form. With its driver in Heer uniform it carries a staff officer or a courier, while as a civilian car it brings a village or town setting to life and serves as a scenario objective. During the war only a few saloons were run by party and Wehrmacht offices, so the model is more scenery and support vehicle than part of the fighting force. Two headlight options are included, and a civilian driver is available separately.
