    Fold the propeller down and in you go: the Type 166 was the vehicle for rivers without a bridge. Rubicon depicts it in 50 parts, complete with folding windscreen and a propeller in the running or stowed position.

    Background & context

    With 15,584 built between 1941 and 1944, the Type 166 remained the most-produced amphibious all-wheel-drive vehicle of all. Technically it was a Kübelwagen with a boat hull: an air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine in the rear, all-wheel drive that could be engaged in first and reverse gear, plus a folding propeller at the stern. The Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS sent it practically everywhere, to the Pripyat Marshes, to North Africa, to Sicily and finally to western Europe.

    On the tabletop

    The Type 166 Schwimmwagen drives on land and in water and carries scouts, dispatch riders or officers across rivers without a bridge and through marshland. It suits games on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, on Sicily and in Western Europe. You build the rear propeller stowed for road travel or lowered for use in the water. A side-mounted MG34 or MG42 gives the otherwise unarmed car some firepower, and a driver is included.
