    No roof, no doors, but an MG behind the cab: that is how the Long Range Desert Group sent its Chevrolets hundreds of kilometres behind the front. The kit provides the truck in LRDG configuration complete with a crew of five.

    Background & context

    The Chevrolet 1533x2 was a Canadian 1.5-tonner of the kind the Commonwealth drove in tens of thousands. With the Long Range Desert Group it became something else: doors, windscreens and roofs were thrown out, and larger radiators, desert tyres and radio equipment came aboard instead. From March 1942, 200 specially ordered vehicles replaced the Ford 30cwt trucks used until then. With these vehicles the LRDG carried out reconnaissance, road watch and patrols lasting weeks, later in Italy and the Balkans as well.

    On the tabletop

    This Chevrolet belongs to the Long Range Desert Group, which scouted far behind enemy lines in North Africa with open trucks. In a game it suits small scenarios in which a patrol explores routes and watches enemy movements in the opponent's rear. Behind the cab you mount either a Lewis or a Bren gun, and the five crew wear different headgear. The unit later also operated in Italy and the Balkans, where the truck fits as well.
