Hintergrund & Einordnung

The SdKfz 2 Kettenkrad was originally developed as a light tractor for airborne troops and was the only towing vehicle that fit into the cargo hold of a Junkers Ju 52. In practice, it was primarily used by regular infantry and reconnaissance units - especially from 1941 on the Eastern Front, where it laid cables, towed heavy loads, and transported soldiers through the deep Russian mud. It was also used by the Afrika Korps, in Italy and France, and was particularly popular with mountain infantry units and in the partisan fighting in the Balkans. The Goliath included in the set was a remote-controlled demolition vehicle of the Wehrmacht - dubbed "Beetle Tank" by the Allies - and carried 60 or 100 kilograms of explosives, depending on the model, for anti-tank combat or demolition of buildings.
