    Background & context

    In 1934 the Heer called for a tractor with a towing capacity of eight tonnes, and from 1938 the SdKfz 7 was in series production. Wheels steered at the front and rubber-padded tracks ran at the rear, an expensive design but one that still pulled in the mud of the Eastern Front. The entire gun crew sat on the benches behind the driver, and on the hook there was usually an 8.8cm FlaK or a heavy field howitzer. Later the chassis received weapons of its own: as the SdKfz 7/1 with the Flakvierling and as the 7/2 with the 3.7cm FlaK it went into air defence itself.

    On the tabletop

    In your German force the SdKfz 7 tows the heavy guns, above all the 8.8 cm FlaK and the heavy field howitzer. The whole gun crew rides on the benches behind the driver, and the tracks carry them through mud and desert sand. That gives you a battery able to change position. The driver comes in either Heer or Afrika Korps uniform. With Rubicon's separately sold flak kits the vehicle can also become the 7/1 or 7/2.
