The SdKfz 7 originated from a Wehrmacht requirement in 1934 for an eight-ton half-track tractor. Series production began in 1938, and the vehicle became particularly known as a prime mover for heavy artillery and FlaK. Besides its role as a tractor, it transported crews and equipment. This type was deployed in almost all German theaters of war.
