    Product details

    Background & context

The 5 cm PaK 38 reached the troops in 1940 and was the first German anti-tank gun that became truly dangerous to the T-34 at short range, above all with hard-core ammunition. Because it was never available in sufficient numbers, a stopgap helped out: captured French 75 mm field guns were shortened, fitted with a muzzle brake and set on the carriage of the PaK 38. The result was called the PaK 97/38, fired hollow-charge rounds and served mainly on the Eastern Front. It was inelegant, but it filled the gap until the PaK 40.

    On the tabletop

The kit builds either the 5 cm PaK 38 or the PaK 97/38, which uses the barrel of captured French field guns. Field the PaK 38 in games from 1941, when it was one of the few German weapons able to penetrate the T-34. The PaK 97/38 with its shaped-charge rounds suits the Eastern Front from summer 1942. Both work best concealed on a flank. Five crew are included, and the lower shield can be built in firing or travelling position.
