    Product details

    Background & context

At the outbreak of war the 3.7cm PaK 36 was the Wehrmacht's standard anti-tank weapon, and in Poland and France it was still effective. Against the T-34 and KV-1 it then failed so thoroughly that its crews gave it the nickname Heeresanklopfgerät (army door knocker). Instead of mothballing them, the light guns were mounted on armoured personnel carriers and given the Stielgranate 41, an over-calibre hollow charge that was slipped over the muzzle of the barrel. In this way the PaK 36 stayed in service for a long time with Fallschirmjäger and reconnaissance troops.

    On the tabletop

The 3.7 cm PaK 36 is the anti-tank gun of German infantry in Poland and France, and it is good enough against the light tanks of those years. Small and light, it is quick to conceal and can be moved by hand. Fitted with the Stielgranate 41 on its barrel it stays in service later with the Fallschirmjäger, threatening heavier tanks at short range. You build it free-standing or mounted on an Sd.Kfz. 250 or 251, with a full or half shield and five crew.
