    Background & context

    The R75 was developed from 1938 at the army's request and was not a converted civilian motorcycle but a combination with a driven sidecar wheel, locking differential and off-road gears. That got it through sand and mud where ordinary motorcycles were left stranded. In North Africa the combinations took on dispatch and reconnaissance duties, guarded columns and carried an MG on the sidecar. The price was heavy maintenance: dust ate chains and filters, and later Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen pushed the motorcycles out of many roles.

    On the tabletop

    This sidecar combination belongs to the Afrika Korps and suits North African actions in 28 mm scale. Thanks to its driven sidecar wheel the BMW R75 copes with sand and handles scouting, dispatch runs and convoy security. An MG34 or MG42 on the sidecar gives the combination some firepower, but it offers no protection. The three figures wear DAK kit, and you choose a leather or metal stowage case.
