Driven sidecar wheel, differential lock, a dedicated off-road gear: the BMW R75 was no converted civilian motorcycle but a design for sand and mud. The kit leaves you the choice of machine gun and stowage.

Background & context

BMW began work on the R75 in 1938 at the request of the Wehrmacht and had to develop a completely new 750 cc OHV engine for it, which later powered the marque's post-war ranges. In the field it competed directly with the Zündapp KS750, and after trials the Zündapp was considered the more robust machine. In 1942 the two works agreed on shared parts and a successor model. It never came to that: bombs shut down the Eisenach works in 1944, after 16,510 R75s had been built.

On the tabletop

For your Wehrmacht in Europe the R75 with sidecar is a fast vehicle for scouting and dispatch duties. A driven sidecar wheel, a locking differential and dedicated off-road gears take it across most surfaces, including the tracks of the Eastern Front. The MG34 or MG42 on the sidecar allows short bursts, but without armour the combination does not belong in a prolonged firefight. Three figures ride on it, and the stowage case is leather or metal.
