    Background & context

    In April 1943 Soviet test establishments fired on a captured Tiger and found that the T-34's 76.2 mm gun did not penetrate its frontal armour at all. The answer came from the anti-aircraft arm: a turret gun was derived from the 85 mm 52-K gun and set in a larger turret. That brought the decisive side benefit that the commander could at last command instead of aiming the gun himself. From 1944 the T-34/85 came off the line as the new main version.

    On the tabletop

    From 1944 the T-34/85 is the standard tank of your Soviet force, and Polish formations drove it as well. The 85 mm gun in the larger turret can deal with the frontal armour of a Tiger that defeated the 76.2 mm gun, and the commander can concentrate entirely on leading. You build the Model 1943 or 1944 with one of two mantlets, or the OT-34/85 flamethrower tank for use against positions. Oil drums and accessories complete the vehicle.
