    Background & context

    When the Wehrmacht met the T-34 in the summer of 1941, it had nothing comparable in its inventory: sloped armour, wide tracks for mud and snow, a 76.2 mm gun and a diesel engine. German Panzer generals spoke of the most dangerous tank in the world. The weaknesses lay elsewhere: a two-man turret, hardly any radios, and a commander who had to aim and command at the same time. Up to 1942 construction was simplified further and further, visible in rougher cast turrets and omitted details.

    On the tabletop

    With the T-34/76 you field the medium tank that carried the Soviet armoured force from summer 1941. Two each of gun barrels, turrets, hull parts and road wheel sets give you the Model 1940, 1941 or 1942, with the later vehicles recognisable by their rougher cast turrets. Its 76.2 mm gun lets it accompany the infantry and take on German tanks. Since hardly any vehicle had a radio, you are best off keeping your T-34s close together.
