    Background & context

    The first 17-pounders reached the troops in early 1943 as a stopgap on 25-pounder carriages, and the definitive version made its debut in Italy that same year. By the time of the campaign in western Europe it equipped the anti-tank regiments of the Royal Artillery. With hard-core shot it penetrated over 200 mm of armour at short range, whereas as a thrower of high-explosive shells it remained mediocre. In the last winter of the war it stood in position with British and Canadian units.

    On the tabletop

    In Bolt Action the 17-pdr counts as a super-heavy anti-tank gun, which makes it your strongest answer to heavy German tanks. Its high-explosive shells are less effective, so leave enemy infantry to other weapons. The five winter-clad crew suit British or Canadian forces in the winter of 1944, and the oval MDF base holds gun and crew together as one piece. Give it a long, open line of fire.
