Product details

Background & context

Allied plans called for Caen to be taken on the first day of the landings, yet the city held out into July 1944. To break the resistance, British and American aircraft bombed the city heavily several times. Whole shopping streets in the centre were destroyed, and many inhabitants died under the rubble. The ruins slowed the advance of the tanks and at the same time gave the defenders fresh cover.

On the tabletop

With three ruins of different sizes you create a shot-up shopping street or the edge of a market square. The large shop, 17 cm wide, blocks almost a whole side of a street, while the smaller ones fill the gaps. Infantry and anti-tank guns take up positions behind the remaining walls. Combine the ruins with the 15 mm townhouses to show a town after the bombing.
