Nordische Heerfahrten wurden nicht von Staaten organisiert, sondern von Männern mit Ruf: Ein Jarl oder Seekönig sammelte seinen Hird, teilte die Beute und hielt die Gefolgschaft damit zusammen. Banner spielten eine eigene Rolle - dem Rabenbanner der dänischen Heere sagte man nach, man könne ihm Sieg oder Niederlage schon vorher ansehen. Von Lindisfarne 793 bis Stamford Bridge 1066 blieb diese Art der Kriegführung erstaunlich beständig.

On the tabletop

Four figures on foot form the command group of your Viking war band in Hail Caesar, the point around which everything else is arranged. A jarl or sea king gathered his retinue, shared out the plunder and held his men together that way, and on the table he leads them straight at the enemy centre. Banners had their own reputation, such as the raven banner of the Danish armies. The group can be used from Lindisfarne in 793 to Stamford Bridge in 1066. The figures are metal.
