Product details

Background & context

Timber framing was the building method of the trading and farming towns of central Europe: a wooden frame, clay infill and narrow plots, because land inside the walls was scarce. It was exactly this tightness that made town fighting in the seventeenth century so stubborn - pike formations could not deploy between the gables, and every gateway was taken one at a time. Whoever held a town also sat on quarters, supplies and contributions.

On the tabletop

These three half-timbered town houses build up a town centre or outskirts on your Epic Battles table. Between them narrow lanes with short sight lines form, where pike blocks find little room and attacks stall. In Pike & Shotte Epic Battles that fits town fighting in the Thirty Years' War or the English Civil Wars. Two packs turn them into a whole row of houses.
