    Background & context

    On the tabletop

These 48 hoplites represent Thebes, Boeotia and Thessaly from the end of the Persian Wars to the war against Macedon. To recreate Leuctra, you stack them especially deep on the left wing and let them break the Spartan phalanx there. The six trumpets turn individual figures into musicians. The club of Heracles on the shields marks the Thebans, and at Chaeronea they face Philip and Alexander.
