Product details

Background & context

From February 1941 to May 1943 the war in North Africa surged back and forth over 2,000 kilometres of coastal strip, from Tripoli to El Alamein and back. It was a war of vehicles: tanks, lorries and scout cars set the pace, and the infantry rode along. Sand ate engines and barrels, the heat warped optics, and whoever lost their supply of water and fuel had lost. For modellers the desert remains the favourite setting to this day, because every machine tells stories here: layers of dust, extra jerrycans, improvised shade made from shelter quarters. The base supplies the ground for it.

On the tabletop

This desert base in 1:35 scale is meant for vehicles from the North African campaign between 1941 and 1943. Its 235 x 342 mm surface holds a vehicle of the Panzerarmee Afrika or the British Eighth Army together with its crew. Paint the ground in sand and ochre tones and weather it. Fine sand or small stones make the surface rougher and more convincing.
