Product details

Background & context

1:35 has been the house scale of military modelling since the 1960s, ever since Tamiya designed its first motorised tanks to it, and the choice of vehicles and figures that fit this base is correspondingly large. Rural terrain is the classic among backdrops: the war in Europe was fought mostly between fields, hedges and the edges of villages, from the cornfields of Ukraine to the orchards of Normandy. A piece of landscape under the model anchors it in just such a moment, and it is the first exercise for anyone wanting to move from display model to diorama.

On the tabletop

This base provides 235 x 342 mm of rural ground for a 1:35 diorama, with room for a tank and a few accompanying figures. Paint and weather the terrain, add grass tufts, walls or fences as you like, and place your vehicle and figures on it. Since fields, hedges and village outskirts shaped the picture of the war in Europe, this setting suits many vehicles in that scale.
