Background & context

Kettenhemden waren in den Dark Ages teuer. Wer eines trug, gehörte zur Gefolgschaft eines Jarls oder Ealdorman - bei den Skandinaviern die erfahrenen Männer der Schiffsbesatzungen, bei den Angelsachsen Huscarls und Thegns. Diese gepanzerte Minderheit stand in der ersten Reihe des Schildwalls und entschied dort, ob die Linie hielt. Der Rest der Aufstellung kämpfte mit Speer, Schild und wenig mehr.

On the tabletop

This sprue provides four armoured bodies and matching arms that you combine with the Viking or Saxon weapon sprues. With it you build extra warriors in mail for Hail Caesar, such as huscarls, thegns or experienced members of a ship's crew. Warriors in mail formed the front rank of the shield wall and held the line together. Take heads and weapons from the weapon sprues you have left over.
