Background & context

Am 25. September 1066 überraschte Harold Godwinson das norwegische Heer Harald Hardradas bei Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire und schlug es vernichtend. Der Sieg beendete die Wikingerzeit in England und kostete die Sachsen zugleich genau die Kraft, die ihnen drei Wochen später an der Südküste fehlte. Zwischen beiden Schlachten lagen ein Gewaltmarsch von rund 400 Kilometern und kaum Zeit zum Verschnaufen.

On the tabletop

With these three Saxon leaders you lead Harold Godwinson's army into the campaign of 1066 in Hail Caesar. Use them as commanders of your divisions forming the shield wall. On 25 September 1066 the Saxons defeated Harald Hardrada's Norwegian army at Stamford Bridge, but then had to march some 400 kilometres south to face William of Normandy. That makes the figures especially suited to campaigns linking both battles.
