Product details

Background & context

On the tabletop

Four figures with their leader form the command group of your Saxon foot troops in Hail Caesar and lead the front rank into battle. Saxon leaders kept their followers with gifts, land and feasting and fought at the very front themselves; whoever hung back lost his standing. On the table you therefore place him in the front rank as well. The poem of Maldon tells how Byrhtnoth's men fought on after he fell. The figures are metal.
