Product details

Background & context

Sandbags are among the oldest and cheapest ways to protect soldiers from splinters and rifle fire. A jute sack filled with earth or sand stops infantry rounds, and with enough of them a position could be built in an hour that would otherwise have taken a long time to dig. In the Second World War such breastworks surrounded gun pits, blocked doorways and guarded roadblocks, in the desert as much as in Europe.

On the tabletop

In Bolt Action, put the emplacement wherever a weapon team is meant to stay for a while: a mortar near your back edge, a heavy machine gun covering a crossroads or an anti-tank gun on the edge of a village. Its curved shape shields the front and the flanks but leaves the rear open. Set several side by side and you have an improvised defensive line that also combines well with walls and barbed wire.
