Product details

Background & context

The samurai was a retainer first and a fighter second: a warrior in the service of a daimyō, paid in land or rice. In the civil wars of the 15th and 16th centuries he mostly fought on foot and in close formation, not as the lone duellist of the cinema. He remained recognisable all the same: by his lacquered lamellar armour, his helmet crest and the family crest on his back.

On the tabletop

These 24 samurai on foot are the heavily armoured close-combat troops of your Japanese army in 28 mm scale. Yari, naginata or katana let you arm whole units the same way or equip each figure individually. In the civil wars of the 15th and 16th centuries samurai mostly fought on foot in close formation, and that is how you deploy them. Their place is where your ashigaru already hold the enemy and a determined attack can break his line.
