Product details

Background & context

A Japanese army of the Sengoku period was a landscape of flags. Every soldier wore a sashimono on his back, every unit carried its hata-jirushi, and above the general stood the great uma-jirushi by which friend and foe alike recognised him from afar. Orders travelled by conch horn, drum and mounted messenger. Anyone who saw the standard fall knew at once how the battle stood.

On the tabletop

These 14 models give your Sengoku-period army its command. Three mounted samurai serve as generals or officers, joined by a seated general and kneeling and standing samurai for a command group. The ashigaru parts make musicians, standard bearers, ammunition carriers, an officer and an attendant. In 28 mm scale they mark out your leaders and units and give your troops the flags and signallers that orders passed through.
