Product details

Background & context

Rome's Italic allies are contextualized within ancient warfare in Italy. Italic contingents were a central part of Republican armies and fought in conflicts against Pyrrhus, Carthage, and other powers. Such troops were deployed in armies characterized by diverse weaponry, levels of protection, and tactical roles. For tabletop armies, the set provides a clear historical building block for Republican Roman-Italic armies. The classification is based on the troop type depicted and the historical framework described by the manufacturer.

On the tabletop

Rome's Italian allies often provided more than half of a consular army, and this box gives your Republican army that share. The 36 legionaries in mixed armour stand beside the Roman maniples in the battle line, while the 18 light infantrymen skirmish in front. Centurions, standard bearers and musicians lead the units in the wars against Pyrrhus or Hannibal. With small conversions you can field Samnites against Rome, or Italians fighting on Carthage's side.
