Product details

Background & context

Republican Roman cavalry stands in the context of ancient warfare in Italy and the Mediterranean. It fits into the wars against Pyrrhus, the Punic Wars, and the expansion of the Roman Republic. Such troops were employed in armies characterized by different weapons, degrees of protection, and tactical roles. For tabletop armies, the set forms a clear historical building block for Republican Roman and Italic armies. The classification is based on the depicted troop type and the historical framework described by the manufacturer.

On the tabletop

The 16 riders of the Roman Republic wear mixed armour, from muscle cuirass to plain tunic, depending on what each eques could afford. They suit the wars against Pyrrhus and the First and Second Punic Wars. In games they guard the flanks of your legions, throw javelins and take on enemy cavalry. With spare heads you can also build Etruscan horsemen, and with heads from the Carthaginian warriors box Carthaginian ones.
